Not all tow trucks are the same. When you call for recovery in Dubai you might get a flatbed or a wheel-lift truck, and for many modern cars the difference really matters.
What’s the difference?
Wheel-lift towing
A wheel-lift truck cradles one axle, usually the front, and lifts it off the ground. The other two wheels roll along the road behind. It’s quick to hook up and fine for some short tows of ordinary two-wheel-drive cars.
Flatbed towing
A flatbed (or tilt-bed) truck tilts its whole deck into a ramp. The vehicle is driven or winched up, strapped down at the wheels, and carried with all four wheels off the road.
Why flatbed is safer for luxury and performance cars
- All-wheel drive: towing an AWD car with two wheels on the ground can strain the drivetrain. Many manufacturers advise against it.
- Automatic gearboxes: many automatics shouldn’t be towed with the driven wheels turning, especially over longer distances.
- Low splitters and sills: lifting one end of a low car can scrape the front or rear. A low-angle flatbed avoids that.
- No road wear: tyres, brakes and bearings aren’t turning for kilometres on a car that isn’t being driven.
- Accident-damaged cars: if a wheel or suspension arm is damaged, the car can’t safely roll behind a truck at all.
Tip: check your owner’s manual. Most premium brands give specific towing instructions, and many simply say “flatbed only”.
How we load a supercar

For low cars we lower the bed to its shallowest angle, check clearance at the splitter as the car climbs, and secure it with straps over the tyres, never hooks on suspension or bodywork. You can ask for photos at pickup and drop-off as a condition record.
The bottom line
A wheel-lift tow might be cheaper for an old runabout, but for anything valuable, all-wheel drive, automatic or lowered, a flatbed is the safe choice. That’s why it’s the only kind of truck we run.
